Who looks for a made-to-measure table
The Polish phrase “stół na wymiar” (made-to-measure table) gets about 390 searches a month, +8% year on year and +29% over three years (Google Keyword Planner, research of 21 October 2026). Phrases with “configurator” for furniture (sofas, beds, desks, tables) add up to about 380 queries a month and +23% year on year. The intent is local and transactional: the customer is looking for a joinery workshop, oak and a price. Questions like “what table for 6 people” and “how many cm per person” are informational, so this article answers them.
In Poland we found no table configurator with real 3D for wood. Cinder and Hurtownia Blatów show photos, and only Marbelia claims 3D, for its sintered stone tables. In Germany, Rellgo has one parametric model that changes size in real time, and Wohnholzdesign and Masstisch have a full grid of sizes with prices.
How many people the table seats
This is the customer's first question. One person needs at least 60 cm of table length, 80 cm to be comfortable, and the place setting alone takes 60–70 × 40–50 cm. For six people, a rectangle of about 160 × 90 cm or a round table 140–150 cm in diameter is enough (Murator).
The diameter of a round table is calculated with a formula: number of people × 60 / 3.14, rounded up. For 6 people the formula gives 114 cm, while in practice it is 140–150 cm, so the formula is the lower limit. Typical off-the-shelf diameters are 90, 100, 120, 140 and 160 cm (Murator).
The configurator calculates the seats from the shape and size and shows them as chairs in the scene. On the long sides it allows 65 cm of edge per person, i.e. a place setting of 60–70 cm, and one seat at each end. On a round top the number of people depends on the diameter. Examples from the demo:
- rectangle 180 × 90 cm: 6 people;
- the same table with one 50 cm leaf (230 cm): 8 people;
- with two leaves (280 cm): 10 people.
The note under the price says plainly how many people the table seats closed and extended. The summary repeats both numbers.
Table top dimensions
Length, width and diameter are set with a slider in 5 cm steps, as in Wohnholzdesign's full size grid. Dimension lines appear on the model.
| Dimension | Range in the demo | Reference point |
|---|---|---|
| Length | 120–300 cm | Wohnholzdesign 100–300 cm, Masstisch from 120 × 80 cm |
| Width | 80–110 cm | a table for 6 is about 90 cm wide (Murator) |
| Diameter (round) | 90–160 cm | typical diameters 90–160 cm (Murator) |
| Height | 75 cm | optimum 75–76 cm (Murator), 70–75 cm (IKEA) |
Height is fixed, because a dining table is 75–76 cm high, and there should be 25–30 cm between the chair seat and the underside of the top (IKEA). Configurators give different ranges here: Cinder 70–80 cm, Wohnholzdesign 70–85 cm in 1 cm steps with a standard of 76 cm, and Masstisch 25–110 cm, bar tables included. Around the table you need to leave 60–90 cm from the edge of the pulled-out chairs to the wall (Murator).
Table top shapes
The demo has four shapes: rectangle, barrel, oval and round. A barrel is a rectangle with curved long sides. When the shape changes, the outline of the top morphs smoothly into the new one, without swapping the model, and the chairs move to their new places.
The market has more forms. Table du Sud in the Netherlands offers oval, round, organic, “pebble”, rectangle, arch, square and half-oval. Höffner and Wohnholzdesign have tops with a natural trunk edge (live edge). A rectangle can have sharp or rounded corners (Murator). In a live deployment the configurator gets the shapes from the manufacturer's range.
Top material and thickness
Made-to-measure tables are made of oak (solid, laminated staves, rustic, select grade), smoked oak, American walnut, ash, beech, alder, cherry and maple, veneer on board or MDF, sintered quartz stone, concrete and Fenix (Pickawood, esstische.de, Table du Sud). Pickawood has 11 solid woods and 5 veneers. The demo has five materials:
- solid oak, natural oil;
- smoked oak;
- American walnut;
- whitewashed ash;
- sintered quartz stone, white marble.
Wood has grain in its texture. A solid top is made of short staves (“patchwork”) or of full-length staves, which cost more (Pickawood).
Thickness is chosen from three values: 3, 4 or 5 cm. Wohnholzdesign offers 3 and 4 cm, Höffner TUXA 2.2–5 cm depending on the wood and length, and Hurtownia Blatów has 4 cm across its whole oak range. Veneer on board is usually 18 mm (Leroy Merlin, Magnus model). A thicker look can be an illusion: Signal Domingo has a 5.5 cm edge, but it is thickened with an edge strip.
The edge is straight, slightly rounded or Swiss, i.e. bevelled towards the underside. A Swiss edge makes the top look thinner (Wohnholzdesign). Cinder offers a straight 90° edge, a 45° chamfer of 1, 2 or 3 cm and an R17 mm radius.
Wood finish
A wooden top is finished with oil, hardwax oil or lacquer (Murator). Oil and hardwax oil give a natural look and allow the top to be repaired locally, while lacquer gives a closed coating. Wohnholzdesign has five finishes, from natural oil to white and matt lacquer. Cinder stains the top in eight colours: natural, grey, walnut, wenge, black, white, rustic and sonoma. In the demo the oak is oiled, and smoked oak carries a 5% surcharge on the price of the top. In a live deployment the list of finishes and surcharges comes from the workshop's range.
Legs and bases
The base changes the character of the table and the knee room. Corner legs take up space at the ends, while a central pedestal or skid base gives more knee room (bau.de). The demo has four bases:
- four 8 × 8 cm legs, as at Cinder (80 × 80 mm);
- four tapered legs Ø80/42 mm, also after Cinder;
- steel skid base, powder-coated black or white; Wohnholzdesign makes 8 × 2 cm skids at 0.8 of the table width;
- pedestal for a round top.
Wooden legs take the colour of the top. Steel comes in two colours: matt black and matt white. The market has more bases: Höffner TUXA has U, X and A skids and a star base, esstische.de a cross base, Mikado, panel ends and a pedestal, in wood, stainless steel, aluminium and glass.
Extending and extension leaves
A table extends in several ways (esstische.de):
- end pull-out;
- synchronised mechanism, in which both halves move apart at the same time;
- end extensions;
- leaves inserted in the middle;
- folding leaves stored under the top, up to 3.
There are 0 to 6 leaves, usually 35–65 cm each. Examples from Polish shops: Signal Domingo extends from 100 to 250 cm with three 50 cm leaves stored separately, and the round Magnus at Leroy Merlin from Ø110 to 150 cm with a 40 cm leaf.
In the demo the table has a synchronised mechanism and zero, one or two 50 cm leaves. The “Extend / close table” button slides the halves of the top apart. Once the halves have moved apart, the leaves come out from under the top and extra chairs appear at the table. None of the table configurators we reviewed in Poland and Germany animated the extension. The customer only saw the “extended” length in a table.
Workshop rules
An option that does not fit the shape or size is changed, with a note that says what changed and why:
- a pedestal only supports a round top, and with any other shape the table goes back to four legs;
- a skid base under a round top is replaced with a pedestal;
- in the demo an extended table is at most 300 cm, as long as the longest tops in the Wohnholzdesign and Masstisch configurators, so surplus leaves are removed;
- on a long table with wooden legs, the configurator reminds the customer that the joiner will check the leg spacing and add a support under the middle of the top.
The last rule comes from practice: a longer top may need a different leg spacing or an extra support (rawood.pl). The 220 cm threshold in the demo is an assumption that the manufacturer replaces with its own.
How the demo calculates the price
Manufacturers price tables with a grid of prices per size (Masstisch) or recalculate the price with every change (Masstisch, Pickawood, esstische.de). The demo prices the top per square metre with multipliers for material, thickness and shape, plus the base, edge, leaves and mechanism. The “How is it priced?” button shows every item with its calculation.
We calibrated the rates on Hurtownia Blatów (“Stylowy Dąb” range, 4 cm top). A 240 × 90 cm table costs PLN 1,141 more than a 160 × 90 cm one, i.e. about PLN 1,585 per square metre of top, and the fixed part is about PLN 1,020. Check: oak 200 × 90 cm on four legs comes to PLN 3,880 in the demo and costs PLN 3,900 in the shop. The species multiplier comes from Masstisch: American walnut is about 1.42 times more expensive than oak in the same model.
| Table | Price incl. VAT | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Oak, made to order, average | PLN 5,000–12,000 | Murator, 28 January 2026 |
| Oak 140–180 cm, straight legs | PLN 3,500–7,000 | Murator |
| Oak 200 × 90–100 cm, non-extending | PLN 6,000–9,500 | Murator |
| Oak 160 × 90 cm, 4 cm top | PLN 3,299 | Hurtownia Blatów |
| Oak, extending 140 → 190 cm | PLN 4,999 | Hurtownia Blatów |
| Sintered stone, extending 160 (+2 × 40) × 90 cm | approx. PLN 4,400 | Meblomoda |
The price goes up with the size and thickness of the top, the wood grade, the leg type, the shape, the finish and the region, and workshops charge extra for express orders (Murator). Lead times: Hurtownia Blatów 14–21 days, Cinder 30 days, Masstisch 8–10 weeks, Pickawood 11–13 weeks. The prices in the demo are samples. In a live deployment the configurator calculates from the manufacturer's price list.
What the manufacturer gets
The summary collects the shape and size of the top with its height, the material with its thickness, the edge, the base with the steel colour, the extension and the number of seats before and after extending, with the itemised price alongside. The customer sees how many people the table seats, and the sales rep gets a ready set of parameters for the quote. In a live deployment the shapes, materials, legs, size ranges and rates come from the manufacturer's range.
The chairs at the table in the demo are there for scale. Upholstery, legs and a set at a 75 cm top are shown in the 3D chair configurator, and fitted furniture in the 3D made-to-measure wardrobe configurator. You can see lighting above the table in the 3D lamp configurator. You can work out an indicative implementation cost in the configurator cost estimator.
