So where does a typical project land? Most manufacturing compaNos start with simple or the lower limit of the expanded, one product type, several parameters, price list and offer generation. As a result, this is the MVP for PLN 35,000 – PLN 90,000. Furthermore, the expansion (additional lines, ERP integration, 3D module) is phase 2, a separate budget.

When someone offers you a configurator for 20-25 thousand, you most likely get a WordPress plugin or a simple low-code form. For a very simple product (several variants, static price list), this may be enough. But WordPress has its limits: rigid architecture, performance problems with higher traffic, lack of flexibility when pricing rules become more complicated. However, in six months, when you add a second product line or need integration with ERP, you will start from scratch because the WP plugin will not handle it. It's worth knowing this in advance.

What faCTOrs influence the price of a product configurator? 7 faCTOrs

1. Product and rule complexity

First and foremost, a furniture configurator with three color options is not the Same as an agricultural machinery configurator with hundreds of parameters and interdependencies. Akpil projects (agricultural machinery) we have hundreds of parameters per machine type, variants, accessories and exclusion rules, this is the advanced level.

Approximately:

  • Below are 10 parameters (e.g., color, size, material), a simple configurator
  • 10–100 parameters with options and accessories, comprehensive
  • 100+ parameters with dependencies, exclusions, and dynamic pricing, advanced

3D Module (Visualization)

3D ModuleThree.js—we wrote about it in a separate post) is not present in the simple configurator. In the advanced one, it's an option, and in the expert one, it's a full module. Consequently, the cost difference is PLN 30,000–80,000. If your product doesn't require a visual representation (because the customer buys based on the specifications), don't pay for 3D rendering.

3. ERP / Customer Relationship Management / PIM Integration

Every integration with an existing system is 4,000–15,00PLN 0 additional. For example, SAP, Comarch, Subiekt, Salesforce, and Pipedrive—each has a different API (or none at all). If you don’t have a Customer Relationship Management yet or your current one doesn’t support carmated quoting, we build configurators with native integration with JSON Hub (Our Customer Relationship Management platform + digital quoting in one). 4. Infrastructure and hosting

As for the infrastructure: the basic configurator runs on shared hosting (a few hundred PLN per year), while the advanced version requires a dedicated environment (AWS / Azure), costing 1,500–5,00PLN 0 per month.

Fixed overhead ~10% project value. Specifically: penetration testing, code auditing, data encryption, identity management.

6. Number of platforms

By default, web is the standard. However, the mobile version (Flutter / React Native) is PLN 40,000–80,000. Start with web, add platforms after validation.

7. Post-Implementation Maintenance

The configurator isn't a one-time purchase; it's a dynamic system that grows alongside your product. The approximate annual maintenance cost is ~20% project values. What's included in this:

  • Infrastructure, hosting, SSL, uptime monitoring, backups
  • Bug fixes and patches, corrections submitted by sales representatives and customers
  • New product variants, add a line, change the parameters, and the configurator updates
  • Price list updates, synchronization with your PIM/ERP system, or manual updates
  • Maintaining integration. The APIs of external systems are changing, so integration requires adjustments
  • Minor UX improvementsOnce it's implemented, you can see where customers get stuck and make improvements

MODEL 2 - MARKET BENCHMARK

Win rate increase

Benchmarks Gartner i Nucleus Research indicate +10–20 percentage points in win rate after Configure, Price, Quote/configurator implementation:

  • The client receives the price on the screen, not in the weekly eemail
  • A conversation with a salesperson is about conditions, not fundamentals.
  • There's no "ghost effect"—you know who set it up and where they left off

Engagement, retargeting, data

A client setting up a product spends time on the website. 3–8 minuteses (vs. ~30 seconds per PDF). This remarketing window (hot lead), profile for Customer Relationship Management (what was configured, which variant stalled), and data for product iteration (what's missing from the offer).

You won't paste these three things into an ROI spreadsheet, but each is observable two months after implementation.

The configurator is addressed through changes to the sales processs, not through stoppers.

Custom configurator vs. ready-made template: which one to choose

A configurator is a tool before contacting a salesperson...the customer configures the product themselves, sees the price, and submits an inquiry. This isn't Configure-Price-Quote, which comes into play during the quoting stage after speaking with a sales representative. These are two different tools at two different stages of the sales funnel.

That's why it's worth considering. We've seen more than one project where a client chose a cheaper option, and after a few months, they returned to the market looking for someone to bring it to a usable state. The cost of repairs?
